7 Signs Your Website Is Costing You Customers

Most business owners assume a website that's "technically fine" is doing its job. It usually isn't. A site can look presentable and still quietly push visitors away before they ever pick up the phone. Here are seven signs worth checking today, not next quarter.

1. It Takes More Than a Few Seconds to Load

Patience for slow websites has essentially disappeared. If your homepage takes more than a couple of seconds to appear, especially on mobile, a real share of your visitors are already gone before they see anything you built.

2. It Doesn't Work Properly on a Phone

Check your own site on your own phone right now. Is the text readable without zooming? Can you find the contact button without hunting? If the answer to either is no, you're losing the majority of your traffic — because that's where most of it is coming from.

3. Your Phone Number Is Hard to Find

This sounds too simple to matter, but it's one of the most common problems we see. If a visitor has to click through two pages to find how to contact you, plenty won't bother. Your contact information should be visible from anywhere on the site.

4. You Can't Remember the Last Real Lead It Brought In

Ask yourself honestly: when did your website last generate an inquiry you can actually point to? If the answer is "I'm not sure" or "a while ago," that's not a coincidence. It's a signal.

5. It Doesn't Show Up When You Search Your Own Services

Try searching for what your business does, plus your city. If you can't find yourself on the first page, your customers probably can't either — and they're finding your competitors instead.

6. The Design Still Reflects an Older Version of Your Business

Businesses change. Services expand, offerings shift, branding matures. A website that hasn't kept pace tells visitors — fairly or not — that the business behind it might not have either.

7. There's No Clear Next Step

Land on your own homepage as if you were a stranger. Is it obvious what you want them to do — call, fill out a form, book something? If you have to think about it, so will they, and most won't bother figuring it out.

What to Do If You Recognized More Than One of These

One or two of these signs might be worth addressing individually. Three or more usually means the site needs a genuine redesign rather than a patch job. Either way, the fix starts with an honest look at what's actually happening, not guessing.
